WE Day

event
It's too early to ask for money right now. It would be best to ask in the fall. It's October 27th and I would set the selection criteria. I have the students write a reflection on social justice tied into our religious curriculum.
It's about committing to social justice projects (which do not need to be monetary) We did food drives, awareness campaigns, and money collection. It's open to whatever the kids choose to do.
I have to sign up for tickets by June 10th, but that doesn't mean we go for sure. It's an application and then they choose to give tickets. We can also say no to them come september if we do not want to go.
The trip was great! (besides the one year we had a student throw up!)
The students were so excited that waking up at 4:30am was not an issue. We have to be there by 8:30 am, so leaving by 5:30 is early enough. And we get back by 6ish. We had snacks on the bus and the kids all brought lunches or money.
Behaviour is something that I make clear to the kids as well. If they have any issues at school they don't go. It's a great way to teach leadership as they are responsible for implementing the social justice initiatives for the year.
